FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 19, 20007

CASPIAN RELEASES MICROCHIP CANCER REPORT

Sets record straight after misleading claims by HomeAgain and VeriChip
implant manufacturers

A new paper titled "Microchip-Induced Tumors in Laboratory Rodents and
Dogs: A Review of the Literature 1990-2006" has been released today by
CASPIAN. The full, 48-page paper provides a definitive review of the
academic literature showing a causal link between implanted
radio-frequency (RFID) microchip transponders and cancer in laboratory
rodents and dogs. In addition, a brief, four-page synopsis of the full
report is being made available.

Eleven articles previously published in toxicology and pathology
journals are evaluated in the report. In six of the articles, between
0.8% and 10.2% of laboratory mice and rats developed malignant tumors
around or adjacent to the microchips, and several researchers suggested
the actual tumor rate may have been higher. Two additional articles
reported microchip-related cancer in dogs.

In almost all cases, the malignant tumors, typically sarcomas, arose at
the site of the implants and grew to surround and fully encase the
devices. In several cases the tumors also metastasized or spread to
other parts of the animals.

Public revelation of a casual link between microchipping and cancer in
animals has prompted widespread public concern over the safety of
implantable microchips. The story was first broken to the public in
September through an article written by Associated Press Reporter Todd
Lewan. Prior to the AP story, the journal articles were completely
unknown outside of small academic circles.

"The AP did a superb job informing the public of the existence of these
journal articles," said Dr. Katherine Albrecht, a leading privacy expert
and long-time VeriChip opponent who authored the new paper.
"Unfortunately," Dr. Albrecht added, "a lot of misinformation about the
cancer research has circulated since Mr. Lewan's article was published.
I wrote the report to set the record straight."

The animal-microchip study findings were so compelling that one of Mr.
Lewan's sources, Dr. Robert Benezra, head of the Cancer Biology Genetics
Program at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, was
quoted as saying, "There's no way in the world, having read this
information, that I would have one of those chips implanted in my skin,
or in one of my family members."

Nevertheless, representatives of the chipping industry have made
inaccurate public statements about the research findings in an effort to
confuse the public.

Scott Silverman, CEO of the VeriChip Corporation which makes the
controversial VeriChip human implant, recently provided inaccurate
information to Time Magazine. Mr. Silverman is quoted as saying that
none of the tumors found in mice in a 2006 French study were malignant.
In fact, not only were the tumors malignant sarcomas, but most of the
afflicted animals died prematurely as a result of the
microchip-associated tumors.

In addition, Destron Fearing, makers of the HomeAgain pet implant,
dismissed a finding of fibrosarcoma--a highly lethal cancer--as
'benign' in a recent report.

A fibrosarcoma is a type of sarcoma, a malignant tumor of soft tissue
that connects, supports or surrounds other structures and organs of the
body. Dr. Timothy Jennings, an expert on implant-induced cancers in
humans, said he was "not aware of any nosology incorporating an entity
of 'benign fibrosarcoma'" and agreed that "any tumor classified as
sarcoma should be viewed as malignant."

"Either VeriChip and the makers of HomeAgain actually don't understand
the difference between a benign fibroma and a malignant fibrosarcoma,"
noted Dr. Albrecht, "or they're deliberately lying to the public. Either
way, it's clear they can't be trusted. We hope our new report will set
the record straight."

The report includes a one- to three-page writeup on each of the original
studies. In addition to a detailed review of the academic literature,
the report contains recommendations for patients, pet owners,
veterinarians, and policy makers, including the following: (1) Further
microchipping of humans should be immediately discontinued; (2)
Implanted patients should be informed in writing of the research
findings and offered a procedure for microchip removal; and (3) Policy
makers should reverse all animal microchipping mandates.

As part of its public awareness campaign, CASPIAN will be issuing copies
of the new report to leading policy and decision makers.

The full 48-page report and four-page synopsis are also immediately
available for public download at http://www.antichips.com/cancer/

Britons soon to be microchipped by force ??

see the following article, unfortunately, you have to copy and paste alltogether, I do not know why I cannot get in a working link Sad

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23372564-details/Britons%20'could%20be%20microchipped%20like%20dogs%20in%20a%20decade'/article.do?expand=true#StartComments

Twisted Evil Human beings may be forced to be 'microchipped' like pet dogs, a shocking official report into the rise of the Big Brother state has warned.

Embarassed The microchips - which are implanted under the skin - allow the wearer's movements to be tracked and store personal information about them.

"There is a rather scary underlying feeling that people may worry that these microchips are less about being a human being than becoming a barcoded product."

Read the rest online .... the article is copyrighted.

I do not care how the UK government dress it up, I will never accept being microchipped like an animal, if that means having to survive outside the system so be it. Be warned, if you do accept it, it will just be the start of all your rights and humanity being stripped away. The war against terror is bogus, I wish people would wake up and see through the constant lies being fed to them in the media, unfortunately by the time they do it will be too late.

- Caroline Smith, Enfield UK

The religious aspects of this are my concern. I refuse to be implanted due to my religious beliefs. They may as well mark you with a 666 because that's what it is.

If that isnt enough, no one needs to know my movements. Why do they want to know? I am already on a camera 250 times a day from all over and that is privacy invasion enough thank you. I work, I pay my taxes, I obey the laws, now leave me alone. I don't need some jackoff seeing how many times I go to the restroom, or asking me why I stood in front of a building for X amount of minutes or worse yet, knowing my medical wellbeing or, god forbid, be able to terminate me via remote control.

It's crazy and it's not for me no matter how much better they say your life will be with it. You don't want it!

- Blain Kelner, Boston, USA

You will have to kill me before I would ever accept a chip to ID me. That's simple. This is my line in the sand.

- Joe, UK

The Bible beat George Orwell to the punch by about 2,000 years. A lot of people have ridiculed the "mark of the beast" that the book of Revelation talks about, but it looks more and more like it could be reality in the form of an implanted microchip.

- Tim Callahan, Miami, Florida USA

...........Anybody that doesn't want to get a chip we could strongly encourage them and if they persist... well they must be a nefarious person and thus, we should ban them from the society. I don't think that we want them around anyway.

For my pound, I say more cameras and implant the chips. Where do I sign up?

- Darth , Tattooine

You will never have to stand in a bread line if your have your own food.
You will never have to be microchipped if you have your own food.
They won't come looking for you to do it. You will go to them, and it will
be a requirement to obtain your bread and rice.

Food is the weapon used to control the people in a socialist state.

Perhaps the Mormans and the Amish know something about government that you have forgotten.

- Don, Yelm Washington

How is this really any different to the tatoos the Jewish people were given during the Holocaust?

- Cindy, Gettysburg

What has happened to the UK? It sounds more and more like North Korea every day.

- Colin, San Francisco, USA

This article should make bigger headlines but it probably won't. Of all the technologies at our disposal, this one poses the greatest threat to freedom and personal liberty.

As an RF engineer I have played with these little gismos and the things you can do with them are phenomonal. For example, the same technology is used to code buried cables 35 feet in the ground that can be read by a receiver on the ground.

I also have seen them be used on dogs where the dog itself could be scanned and the data it carried could be downloaded from over 50 feet away.

So regardless of the claims that these little devices are "short range" and do not provide a big security threat to the individual who has one implanted in them, with the right equipment they can be read from much greater distances than the companies advertise and, to me, have a great potential of abuse.

Most of the cards already implanted with RFID chips in them contain 32 to 64 kilobytes of information. A lot of personal data can be easily stored and downloaded from a 64 K chip without the persons knowledge.

And we are worried about the government monitoring our phone calls to nab suspected terrorists? Does anyone else but me see the potential problem here?

- Dave Hardesty, Tracy USA

...so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

- Tibor Warski, Toronto

George Orwell's real name was actually Eric Blair.

- Squiz, Islington

This illustrated perfectly one of Blair's few great successes in government; subduing the entire population of Britain into a seething mass of apathetic guinea pigs prepared to accept almost ANYTHING without complaint (including the introduction of a new tax on a daily basis).

This Governement has systematically removed almost every freedom once taken for granted by the citizens of this country with barely a wimper, so the fitting of RFID chips to the entire population would a fitting epitaph for this deeply fascist government.

Presumably the only reason students aren't at the forefront of protest against these insane proposals is because they can't afford the top-up fees to go to university in the first place.

And that leaves Blair to wrap things up by introducing the one new tax he has not yet thought of: a tax on people who write letters of complaint to newspapers about his government.

- Jamesverdonk, London
(Gordon Brown is just continuing....ml)

Tony Blair already has a microchip installed in his brain so that when he opens his mouth we hear, in effect, his master's voice from across the pond.

Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
Rev 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

Rev 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
Rev 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Rev 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Rev 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Rev 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name (((= 666))) *), stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
Rev 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

http://homepage.virgin.net/vernon.jenkins/sixes.htm

Rev 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
Rev 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

Rev 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
Rev 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

(((Question to which I invite you to answer: If those resisting the Antichristian system - see in above verses -, do not adore his image, do not take his mark and win over his name`s number 666 are in THE FIRST RESURRECTION!!! --- > So can the "rapture" be before the tribulation or in the Midst of the Tribulation????? No. It is simply not possible. Elsewhere scripture would speak against itself. And Jesus Christ said clearly "and the scripture cannot be broken" - John. 10:35)))

1Co 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Rev 10:5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
Rev 10:6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
Rev 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

Mat 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Met Police officers to be 'microchipped' by top brass in Big Brother style tracking scheme
Last updated at 10:46am on 10th April 2008

Comments (1Cool

Met Chief Sir Ian Blair could be among 31,000 officers to receive the new electronic tracking device

Every single Metropolitan police officer will be 'microchipped' so top brass can monitor their movements on a Big Brother style tracking scheme, it can be revealed today.

According to respected industry magazine Police Review, the plan - which affects all 31,000 serving officers in the Met, including Sir Ian Blair - is set to replace the unreliable Airwave radio system currently used to help monitor officer's movements.

The new electronic tracking device - called the Automated Personal Location System (APLS) - means that officers will never be out of range of supervising officers.

But many serving officers fear being turned into "Robocops" - controlled by bosses who have not been out on the beat in years.

According to service providers Telent, the new technology 'will enable operators in the Service's operations centres to identify the location of each police officer' at any time they are on duty - whether overground or underground.

Although police chiefs say the new technology is about 'improving officer safety' and reacting to incidents more quickly, many rank and file believe it is just a Big Brother style system to keep tabs on them and make sure they don't 'doze off on duty'.

Some officers are concerned that the system - which will be able to pinpoint any of the 31,000 officers in the Met to within a few feet of their location - will put a complete end to community policing and leave officers purely at the beck and call of control room staff rather than reacting to members of the public on the ground.

Pete Smyth, chairman of the Met Police Federation, said: "This could be very good for officers' safety but it could also involve an element of Big Brother.

"We need to look at it very carefully."

Other officers, however, were more scathing, saying the new system - set to be implemented within the next few weeks - will turn them into 'Robocops' simply obeying instructions from above rather than using their own judgement.

One officer, working in Peckham, south London, said: "They are keeping the exact workings of the system very hush-hush at the moment - although it will be similar to the way criminals are electronically tagged. There will not be any choice about wearing one.

"We depend on our own ability and local knowledge to react to situations accordingly.

"Obviously we need the back up and information from control, but a lot of us feel that we will simply be used as machines, or robots, to do what we are told with little or no chance to put in anything ourselves."

He added: "Most of us joined up so we could apply the law and think for ourselves, but if Sarge knows where we are every second of the day it just makes it difficult."

Another officer, who did not want to be named, said: "A lot of my time is spent speaking to people in cafes, parks or just wherever I'm approached. If I feel I've got my chief breathing down my neck to make another arrest I won't feel I'm doing my job properly."

The system is one of the largest of its kind in the world, according to Telent, the company behind the technology, although neither the Met nor Telent would provide Police Review with any more information about exactly how the system will work or what sort of devices officers will wear.

Nigel Lee, a workstream manager at the Met, said: "Safety is a primary concern for all police forces.

"The area served by our force covers 620 miles and knowing the location of our officers means that not only can we provision resource more quickly, but should an officer need assistance, we can get to them even more quickly."

Forces currently have the facility to track all their officers through GPS devices on their Airwave radio headsets, but this is subject to headsets being up to date and forces buying the back office systems to accompany them, according to Airwave.

Steve Rands, health and safety head for the Met Police Federation, told Police Review: "This is so that we know where officers are. Let us say that when voice distortion or sound quality over the radio is lost, if you cannot hear where that officer telling you where he is, you can still pinpoint his exact position by global positioning system.

"If he needs help but you cannot hear him for whatever reason, APLS will say where he is."

Well the PC target driven police are as much use as a wheelie bin, so if we micro chip wheelie bins, the police are fair game.

- John Smith, Tadcaster Yorkshire

It might just be a brighter idea to attach tracking devices to known criminals.

- Kevin, Lincoln, UK

It's a crying shame that George Orwells prediction of a 'big brother' society has been allowed to flourish. This is the first step and will be closely followed by companies looking to monitor the whereabouts of staff. Next will be the ability to hear your conversations through the tagging system... you have been warned.

- Julian, Colchester

How long before we are all forced to get this?

- Kevin Quilter, United Kingdom

When I asked about the possibility of my dementia suffering father being 'tagged' (due to his tendency to wander off), I was told it was against his human rights.
This would have been for his own safety, to be able to find him and stop him crossing busy roads- so why is it now acceptable to do so to the police?

- Sandra, Spain

How long before Everyone has to suffer this?

I'm just glad I left while I could!

- Dave Kitchenham, Paphos, Cyprus

Good, I know of a copper that would say he was patrolling while in fact he was still at home sitting on the toilet or having a cup of tea in a friends house.

- Dave, Birmingham

I wonder how many officers will choose to leave? I think I would take this to the court of Human Rights.

- Jan, Colchester UK

Let the Policemen do there job, why it is necessary to tag them like a common criminal is beyond belief. It will not improve performance, it will undermine the individuals confidence and dedication. Being a Police Officer today is still a position of responsibility in the face of graver dangers. There is too much tinkering and accountability and not enough down to earth common sense.

- Martin Smith, Munich, Germany

Why don't they microchip criminals and terrorists too?

- Joanna, Waltham Abbey, Essex

Shouldn't somebody tell these people the police are supposed to be the good guys. Aren't we supposed to be punishing criminals? Someone somewhere has lost the plot and should resign.

- M.Sykes, Mexborouigh, South Yorkshire

Within 50 years the entire population will be electronically tagged, their DNAs will be held on a database and every square inch of the country will be covered by CCTV. I'm glad that I won't be around to see '1984' realised.

- Rigger, Western Australia

Another unnecessary cost to the taxpayer. The public already knows where they are NOT, so it's hardly useful to establish where they ARE, is it?

- Glyn, Southampton, U.K.

This is just the beginning. It won't be long before Big Brother has us all micro-chipped at birth.

- John Salkeld, Sheffield, England

While I disagree with the concept of microchipping people, if it's going to happen it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of people. Maybe they can provide samples of their DNA at the same time?

- Ruth, poole, uk

Watch out. We'll be next!

- Badger, Dorset, England

What next? Tattooing them with 666?

- L R Baker, Weston-super-Mare

Police today, every member of the public tomorrow.

- Jimpy, Lincs

Dear friends,

Yes, we need to stop the spreading of this sick device ! Mad Exclamation

In order to "cut this sick limb before the disease spreads", please don't look for a solution with organizations that are SUPPOSED to do this. Exclamation Most of these organizations and associations are already CORRUPT ! Shocked Confused

Human rights, privacy advocates... are either too weak, corrupt or not numerous enough anyway. Sad

What should you do, then ? Question MOVE ON YOUR OWN, without expecting that your neighbor will move before you do !!! Idea Wink

You must FORCE the authorities to hear you and to do IMMEDIATELY what you DEMAND (they MUST make chip implants and associate technologies absolutely ILLEGAL and totally PROHIBITED) ! Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Why should you coerce them to do so ? Because authorities are in FAVOR of the chip (it allows them to have more power over their citizens Twisted Evil ), and because they have bonded with the industry (you'll notice that we find every time industry members, bankers, monarchy and governement authorities in the NWO organizations... The industry wants the chip because it represents billions and billions of dollars, euros, pounds, yens etc. Twisted Evil ) ! Surprised Exclamation

You must demontrate, petition, and even riot and REVOLT if necessary ! Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Yes, the ONLY WAY to avoid the worst mess ever is to chose the REVOLUTION ! Shocked Exclamation Our governments and supranational authorities (EU, NATO, WTO, UN etc.) are utterly corrupt, submitted to the will of the US and of the NWO (Bilderberg, CFR, Trilateral Commission). They FOLLOW the infamous and inhuman techno-nazi plans of these organizations. Their goals are EVIL, and there are now even some old NAZI ideas that are coming back to the surface (eugenism, Gestapo-like police-state, the old myth of the Ubermensch or super human...). Twisted Evil Confused

If you don't revolt, if you just request or petition politely, or if you demonstrate kindly like sheep, the authorities will laugh in your face and will continue on their way to tyranny. Exclamation Shocked You need to BE RESPECTED. Exclamation And in order to be respected by the power, you need to OBLIGE them to do so. This is historical fact.

NO REVOLT ? THEN, YOU'LL HAVE NO MORE LIBERTY ! NO INSURRECTION ? THEN YOU'LL GET THE CHIP ! Surprised Sad

Ponder this and make your choice, while you still have the possibility to do so. Chip implants mean the suppression of free agency. Exclamation So you'd better FIGHT AGAINST it with all your strength and with all your soul ! Wink Exclamation

WE'RE NOT PRODUCTS, WE ARE NOT MEAT, WE ARE NOT CATTLE ! Mad

NO CHIP FOR ME, I WANT TO BE FREE !!! Exclamation

Please don't delusion yourself : without a revolution, the chip shall come ! Shocked They ALREADY want to chip the prisoners and eventually cops, in the UK ! In some bible translation in Revelation 13:14

IT IS SPOKEN FROM THE "EYES OF THE BEAST"

Norwegian: "...for de tegns skyld som er det gitt gjre for dyrets ine,"
(... before the beast`s eyes)
French: "...qu'il lui tait donn d'oprer en prsence de la bte" (... in presence of the beast)
Italien: "... dato di fare in presenza della bestia" (... in presence of the beast)
Afrikaans: "...om voor die o van die dier te doen" (before the eyes of the beast)
English ASV: "...in the sight of the beast"
Danish: "... at gre for Dyrets syn" (in front of the face of the Beast)
So in e.g. Norwegian and Afrikaans it is translated "... in front of the EYES OF THE BEAST."

ARE THE CCTV-Cameras THE EYES OF THE BEAST????

at all COMPUTER equals to 666 (a=6, b=12, c=18...z=156)

George Orwell,
Big Brother is watching your house

The Big Brother nightmare of George Orwell's 1984 has become a reality - in the shadow of the author's former London home.

It may have taken a little longer than he predicted, but Orwell's vision of a society where cameras and computers spy on every person's movements is now here.

Scroll down for more

Foresight: The cameras crowd George Orwell's former London home

According to the latest studies, Britain has a staggering 4.2million CCTV cameras - one for every 14 people in the country - and 20 per cent of cameras globally. It has been calculated that each person is caught on camera an average of 300 times daily.

Use of spy cameras in modern-day Britain is now a chilling mirror image of Orwell's fictional world, created in the post-war Forties in a fourth-floor flat overlooking Canonbury Square in Islington, North London.

On the wall outside his former residence - flat number 27B - where Orwell lived until his death in 1950, an historical plaque commemorates the anti-authoritarian author. And within 200 yards of the flat, there are 32 CCTV cameras, scanning every move.

Orwell's view of the tree-filled gardens outside the flat is under 24-hour surveillance from two cameras perched on traffic lights.

The flat's rear windows are constantly viewed from two more security cameras outside a conference centre in Canonbury Place.

In a lane, just off the square, close to Orwell's favourite pub, the Compton Arms, a camera at the rear of a car dealership records every person entering or leaving the pub.

Within a 200-yard radius of the flat, there are another 28 CCTV cameras, together with hundreds of private, remote-controlled security cameras used to scrutinise visitors to homes, shops and offices.

The message is reminiscent of a 1949 poster to mark the launch of Orwell's 1984: 'Big Brother is Watching You'.

In the Shriji grocery store in Canonbury Place, three cameras focus on every person in the shop. Owner Minesh Amin explained: 'They are for our security and safety. Without them, people would steal from the shop. Although this is a nice area, there are always bad people who cause trouble by stealing.'

Three doors away, in the dry-cleaning shop run by Malik Zafar, are another two CCTV cameras.

'I need to know who is coming into my shop,' explained Mr Zafar, who spent 400 on his security system.

This week, the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) produced a report highlighting the astonishing numbers of CCTV cameras in the country and warned how such 'Big Brother tactics' could eventually put lives at risk.

The RAE report warned any security system was 'vulnerable to abuse, including bribery of staff and computer hackers gaining access to it'. One of the report's authors, Professor Nigel Gilbert, claimed the numbers of CCTV cameras now being used is so vast that further installations should be stopped until the need for them is proven.

One fear is a nationwide standard for CCTV cameras which would make it possible for all information gathered by individual cameras to be shared - and accessed by anyone with the means to do so.

The RAE report follows a warning by the Government's Information Commissioner Richard Thomas that excessive use of CCTV and other information-gathering was 'creating a climate of suspicion'.
